In the six months after the first birthday the child is walking. Small motor skills improve and the child begins demonstrating curiosity about how things work. At this time, a child is beginning to understand and use simple words, so you can explain how to use a toy.
Based on these developmental needs consider the following toys:
Wooden blocks
Soft doll or stuffed animal
Puzzles with no more than six pieces
Between the 18th and 24th months a child is walking confidently and even begins to run and climb. He is starting to develop his own identity and has established his own likes and dislikes. He plays alongside his peers, but he is not quite ready to share – at least not yet. When playing alone he will select certain toys to engage in games of make-believe.
Based on these developmental needs consider the following toys:
Larger stuffed animals
Shape-sorter toys
Pull toys
Drum
